SWIMMING ABILITY EXPECTATIONS (Same as 2024 season)

As the team has grown we no longer have the capacity to be both a learn-to-swim program and a competitive swim team. Due to this, we have a beginning benchmark that each child should meet in order to be ready for our program. We want everyone to become a swimmer and highly encourage lessons in the off-season to be prepared to make the most of our Marlins practices.

– Swimmers 6 & Under need to be capable of swimming one length of the pool unassisted by the end of the first week. They should be very comfortable in the water.

– Swimmers 7 & Older should be capable of swimming one length of the pool unassisted on their first day of practice. It is recommended that swimmers ages 7 and older are capable and confident in swimming freestyle and backstroke.

If your swimmer is not quite where you think they should be, we recommend placing them in lessons leading up to the season.

We're looking forward to another great season. Practice begins April 28th for all new swimmers, 6 and under swimmers, and 11-12 year old swimmers. The full team practices begin on May 1st. The meets are scheduled for May 27 (Tuesday), June 2, 9, 16, and 23. Meet of Champs will be June 27, followed by All-Stars on July 1.

Registration Fees:

  • $130 for the first swimmer
  • $120 for the second swimmer
  • $110 for all subsequent swimmers
  • $10 discount for residents of Meadows Place

This fee includes all practices, meet entries, t-shirt, silicone swim cap, end-of-year party, as well as all ribbons, medals, and trophies the swimmer earns during the season.

2025 WAITLIST WAIVER FOR NEW SWIMMERS

I understand that all new swimmers are automatically wait-listed for competition spots on the Meadows Marlins for the 2025 season until try-outs are completed and/or the coach's approval is obtained. This is primarily done to ensure your swimmer is ready to successfully compete.

Every effort is made to have tryouts done during regular practice times at the end of May before the first meet. You will be notified, after tryouts, if your swimmer(s) has been awarded a competition spot.

In the event that your swimmer is not placed by a coach on the competition team due to their skill level they will be eligible for the Swim Lessons Program run separately by the City of Meadows Place Parks Department or other private swim lessons. Any fees paid for the season are not obligated to be refunded at anytime by the Meadows Marlins Swim Team. In the event your swimmer qualifies to make the competition team after they complete a try-out and/or receive the Head Coach's approval (and there is still available space on the competition team), there will be no additional fees to compete than those already paid at the beginning of the season.

The Meadow Marlins are allowed by SHRSL By-Laws to compete with 200 swimmers only. We have no SHRSL limitation for practice spots. Your swimmer may practice with the team even if your swimmer does not obtain a competition spot. Your swimmer may participate in all other activities such as the parade, photos and the team party. Fees remain the same per swimmer no matter their competition status.

Competition spots will be awarded based upon team needs determined by the head coach. Team needs may include: age group, times, legal stroke, etc.

PARENT VOLUNTEER & ATTENDANCE AGREEMENT FORM

Parent Volunteer Agreement

Meadows Marlins swim teams is a parent-run organization. More than 100 individuals are needed for each swim meet to run effectively; therefore, parents are REQUIRED to volunteer in order for their children to swim. The summer league season has a minimum of four dual meets against other teams in the area (usually five per season), plus Meet of Champs and All-Stars. Each family is REQUIRED to work the mock meet and 6 additional volunteer slots (half meet periods). All parents whose children qualify and swim at Meet of Champs and All-Stars are required to volunteer in addition to the minimum regular season 6 points. The Marlins Swim Team Board reserves the right to remove a swimmer from any meet due to a family either failing to meet their volunteer points, or for refusing to volunteer at any regular season swim meet or any post season swim meet their swimmer is competing in.

Practice Agreement

The success of a swimmer is heavily determined by their attending all practices. There is an expectation that all swimmers will attend all available practices. In the event that any swimmer is unable to attend a practice, one of the coaches should be notified by email immediately. Practice attendance is taken into consideration when allowing a swimmer to compete at a swim meet, and that includes what they are to be competing in at that meet.

No spot on our competition team is guaranteed. Coaches and the Marlins Board have the right to determine if a swimmer will be allowed to compete for the team in any event or any swim meet. Both the team's needs and the individual swimmer's needs are taken into consideration for these decisions.

Meet Attendance Agreement

Marlins swimmers must attend 3 of the 5 regular season swim meets. When you register, you must do so with the intent of swimming the entire season (excluding Mock Meet, Meet of Champs, and All-Stars). We understand that swimmers may have to miss a meet due to illness, a family emergency or some other unavoidable situation. Every season, the Marlins Swim Team fills up quickly and we start a wait list; if you register without the intent of swimming all season, this is unfair to those who are willing to make this commitment. We rely heavily on parent volunteers to run our meets and if several families leave before the season is over, this makes it difficult to manage and run our meets efficiently. It also places an undue burden on our other Marlins families. If you do not fulfill the meet attendance or volunteer requirements, you could be placed on the Wait List for the following season. Thank you for your cooperation!

Any family that is deficient in serving volunteer hours will be assigned a fee based on hours completed in order to sign up for future seasons.

- There will be a $50 Flat fee for being deficient

- An additional $25 will be assessed per point causing that deficiency

(ex: complete 5 out of 6 points. Next season you will be assessed an additional $75 ($50 for the deficiency and $25 for the point))

In the event you believe you will not be able to complete your volunteer obligations to the team, please let the VP of Volunteers or another Board member know immediately so that we can make every effort to help you come up with an alternative. The Board recognizes that there can be special circumstances, and wants to work with families to come up with a solution. The Marlins Board is not obligated nor required to present you with an alternative.

By signing below, you agree to fulfill your volunteer duties and agree to the Meadows Marlins meet attendance requirement.

MEADOWS MARLINS SWIM TEAM CODE OF CONDUCT

Swimming for the Meadows Marlins is intended to be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone. However, we must remember that with so many swimmers and only a few supervising adults and coaches, everyone must cooperate. This CODE OF CONDUCT exists to maintain order and above all, safety, at all practices and swim meets and is applicable to swimmers, parents and visitors. Swimmers and their parents should review the code together and discuss its points to ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities and the consequences of not following any point of the code (see #11 below).

1. Swimmers are to be Respectful and Compliant to those in authority. This includes coaches, meet officials, and other parent helpers at the swim practices and swim meets.

2. Foul, abusive, or otherwise unseemly language will not be tolerated at any time by anyone at a Marlin's Swim Team Practice, Event or Function.

3. All City of Meadows Place Pool Safety rules SHALL BE followed during and after practices.

4. Swimmers SHALL NEVER enter the pool until instructed to do so by the coaches.

5. Unruly behavior such as bullying, pushing, fighting, running, or dunking WILL NOT be tolerated.

6. The swim team is for having fun BUT when the coaches require your attention – listen.

7. Each swimmer/parent will be financially responsible for damages to any pool or swim team equipment at the practice or meet facilities.

8. During swim meets and practices, all participants and spectators are forbidden to enter the “baby pool”.

9. No bike riding permitted in the parking lot.

10. Alcohol is prohibited at dual meets; smoking is permitted only in designated areas outside the pool.

11. Swimmers not able to follow the CODE will be disciplined. Disciplinary action shall be at the discretion of the coaches or the swim team board, and may include suspension from practices, meets or if necessary from the team for the remainder of the season - without any refund of fees.

I agree to the points outlined above.

SOCIAL MEDIA

The use of Social Media to promote and uplift both swimmers and the team is encouraged. Any use of Social Media by a participant of the team (including swimmers, immediate family members, and relatives of the swimmer) that is determined to be abusive, targeted, or deliberately harmful to an individual swimmer, member of the swim team, or the towards the team as a whole will result in immediate removal from the Marlins Swim Team. The determination of this abuse and removal will be left to the discretion of the Marlins Swim Team Board.

In the event that someone is removed from the team by a board decision during the course of a swim season, they will automatically be ineligible to compete in the following season without an additional board decision to readmit them.

DISAGREEMENTS

Should a parent have any issue with any coach's decision or action, a 24 hour cooling off period shall be required. After 24 hours if any parent deems it necessary to address any previous situation, a Board Member must be contacted. The Meadows Marlins Board will then in turn contact the coach involved to setup a meeting or conference call to clear the matter. Parents are not allowed to talk to the coach during or immediately after any swim meet or practice with a grievance. The one exception is if there is imminent immediate danger of physical harm towards any individual involved in a Meadows Marlins Program.

All grievances must be presented in writing.
